Thanks for the poster – interesting work. Do you think (or have evidence) as to how the ubiquinol and menaquinone are acting ? Is it a direct antioxidant effect or via the Keap1-Nrf2 pathway ?
Thank you for the interest. Ubiquinol is a potent antioxidant that can react directly with ROS. However, the protective effects may not necessary be associated with the direct radical scavenging mechanism. It’s known that smoke alter the antioxidant defences. In this way it is plausible that quinones could promote Nrf2 activation and translocation leading to overexpression of detoxifying enzymes such as NQO1. We have data to hypothesize that the protective effects of vitamin K could be the result of different carboxylative activity, therefore could be mediated by VKDPs. However, we have no data about the involvement in the Keap1-Nrf2 pathway. It would be interesting to investigate it.
